The December 2022 Edition- Year in Review

Welcome back to a very special We-Survived-2022 episode of the Our Shout Podcast. As always we’re brought to you by the SA branch of the Australian Hotels Association and hosted by Mandy from The Lady Daly Hotel!

First thing’s first, General manager Ian Horne sits down for a bumper interview with SA’s Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison. Together they discuss everything from post-Covid challenges, tourism in the regions, and upcoming events and opportunities for the hospitality industry. Get set for 2023 and tune in!

We then head to Edithburgh with Scotty Vaughan, to chat with Terry Austen of the Troubridge Hotel. It’s always great to hear directly from our members and this is a fantastic insight into Terry’s journey through and love of our industry.

Finally, Ian and Anna (our Deputy GM) take us through the highs and lows of 2022 and share their views on what 2023 has in store. We’ve come so far in the last year, this is great discussion to send you into the festive season with optimism.

The July 2022 Edition- Travel to the West Coast

Welcome back to the July edition of the AHA|SA's Our Shout podcast! We've got lots to get through this month and as always, host Mandy Collins from The Lady Daly hotel is here to take you through it all.

We're kicking things off this month with a message from Deputy GM Anna Moeller, who delivers some important reminders as Covid cases climb and also fulfills her promise from last month...

We then head to SA's West Coast where Scotty catches up with David Carr from The Ceduna Foreshore Hotel to discuss country hospitality, and why you need to hit the road and head to Ceduna.

Scotty then jumps back on the mic and chats to everyone else who attended the Eyre Peninsular regional meeting in Ceduna at the end of last month. Shout out to Rick, Stefan, Chris, Tania, and John for joining us on Our Shout!

Finally, we recap the sizzling success that was this year's SA Pub Burger Challenge! Hosted in a special outdoor kitchen in the heart of Rundle Mall, 12 chefs from hotels across the state cooked off in a showdown that would decide which pub burger was the best in South Australia. We bring you all the highlights and, of course, an interview with the winner so you know where to go to get your hands on the best burger in SA (spoiler alert: you'll be heading to Aldinga!)

The June 2022 Edition- Understanding Your Wine List with Geoff Merrill

Hello and welcome to the Our Shout podcast, bought to you by the SA branch of the AHA. As we head into mid-winter, our host Mandy from the Lady Daly is ready to bring you all the latest in news, trends and stories from the SA hospitality scene.
We kick things off with a chat between the AHA|SA's GM, Ian Horne, who flips the mic to Deputy GM, Anna Moeller (who we heard from last month). This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know your AHA a little better and hear all about what Anna's been working on behind the scenes.

We learn about how far trade has come since the days of lockdown, and Heath tells us about the Hotel's wine-tasting experience, which takes place in The Tank. Finally, Mandy has a long and colourful chat with the owner of Geoff Merrill Wines... Geoff Merrill. With decades of experience in wine-making, Geoff and Mandy talk about how much the industry has changed, and why it's important for publicans to ensure their staff understand the stories and flavours that come with the wines on their wine list.

The May 2022 Edition- Talking Tourism with Rodney Harrex

Anna tells us about the Hospitality Workforce Shortages Survey, which has been put together by the AHA|SA to understand the challenges members are facing regarding the number and types of job vacancies. We then have a fantastic chat with Rodney Harrex, CEO of the South Australian Tourism Commission, and learn how pubs and hotels can be a part of the state's tourism-led recovery. Scotty Vaughan sits down for a chat with Sofitel’s Rachael Harman in this month’s Front Bar segment. Rachael talks us through how she landed this great gig, what it’s like running a major hotel during Covid, and the hotel’s inspired French twist. Merci, Rachael!

We then recap the AHA|SA’s annual Hotel Industry Conference which took place at the Adelaide Convention Centre on the 29th March. We hear what though the highlights were and touch base with a number of AHA members to see how they spent the day.you
And last but not least, we interview South Australia’s Chef of the Year in 2021, Anthony Giardina from the Arkaba Hotel. The March 2022 Edition- Food Trends Shaping our Menus in 2022

Hello, and welcome back to Our Shout! Hosted by the marvelous Mandy from The Lady Daly Hotel, Our Shout is brought to you by the SA Branch of the AHA and brings you all the latest news, stories and trends from the world of SA hospo.

To start, AHA|SA General Manager Ian Horne says there's cause for optimism after a tumultuous state election, receding restrictions and rare days of March sunshine.

After that, we swing to the Front Bar with Scotty, one of our favourite segments on Our Shout! This month, Scotty chats to Stacey Butler from The Commercial Hotel in Strathalbyn. In this great chat, Stacey discusses how she got into hospitality, the benefit of being a female publican in SA and how exactly a horse walked into her bar...

In a special Our Shout report, we then head to Tasmania, where long-term industry great, Greg Fahey was inducted into the Johnnie Walker Hall of Fame at the National AHA Awards. One of the industry's highest honours, we hear from Greg how things have changed over his time in the industry, and we give him a chance to redo his thank you speech. The February 2022 Edition- SA's Longest Serving Publican

We are back for February and ready for another episode of Our Shout, brought to you by the AHA SA Branch. Your host, as always, is Mandy from The Lady Daly, and this week we're battling all that February has to throw at us- festival season, changing restrictions and, of course, a looming election...

First up! AHA|SA General Manager Ian Horne takes us through SA's state election on March 19, and discusses the importance of international students and travelers returning to our state.

Then, the ever popular Front Bar with Scotty segment visits Graham Cox of the Lord Exmouth Hotel in Port Adelaide (affectionately known as the Monkey Bar). With 45 years of ownership under his belt, Graham is South Australia's longest serving publican and he's shared his greatest stories and advice with us here.

We then get topical with Lion Sales Director for SA & NT, Jared Shattock, who answers all of our questions about local icon, West End. After the closure of its local brewery, Jared shares a little about what we can expect to see from West End in the future.

We round things out with a chat with Tim & Tim from Boylen who take us through the ABCs of having a great website, from common website mistakes to tips on standing out during Fringe season. Welcome back to the first Episode of the Our Shout Podcast for 2022. The December 2021 Edition- Making a splash on the Eyre Peninsula

Merry Christmas and welcome to the December Edition of the Our Shout Podcast brought to you by the Australian Hotels Association, SA Branch. Your host, Mandy from The Lady Daly, is joined by a range of experts, suppliers and fellow publicans to bring you all the best and latest in the South Australian hospitality scene.

We kick things off with a special end-of-year message from the National CEO of the AHA, Stephen Ferguson, and hear his take on the ups and downs of 2021.

Then we look forward as Mandy chats to President of the AHA SA Branch, David Basheer, about what the big focuses in 2022 will be. David discusses addressing the skills shortage, the proposed Riverbank Arena and, of course, releasing the Covid hand break.

We then shake things up with a Front Bar segment lead by Events & Sponsorship Manager, Lucy Randall, who attended the Eyre Peninsula’s regional members meeting in late November. Here she sat down for a chat with Tony Hogan from the Streaky Bay Hotel about all the adventures that come with owning a regional venue. We also hear from Dave and Bev Frick from Hotel Arno, and Matt Rogers from the Marina Hotel in Port Lincoln.

Finally, we touch base with Tracy Adams from Big Screen Video to learn about how members can extract maximum value from their venue screens and LED signage.
